Computed X-ray micro tomography is now becoming an indispensable tool for material characterization, revealing the internal microstructure of the material.  X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT) is a technology that uses computer-processed X-rays to produce tomographic images (virtual ‘slices’) of the scanned material. Digital signal processing is then used to generate a 3-D image of the internal microstructure from a large series of 2-D images taken around an axis of rotation.  DMS used digital signal processing techniques to generate a high fidelity 3-D Finite Element Mesh, and uses this geometric mesh in performing Multiphysics design and analysis, coupling fluid flow, heat transfer, and structural analysis.  The design process is aimed at optimizing the microstructure and thus minimizing the development and manufacturing pathways.
